The small one is a 15 days old giant tortoise, his name is Donatello…
Later that day we try to find the giants in the wild and are pretty lucky.
They are enjoying a nice meal (gras?) or take a relaxing mud bath.
Seeing those pictures I rather doubt that mud is good for your skin.
If you don’t want to look like E.T. in a few years, that is. :-D
But Santa Cruz is not only populated by tortoises.
These little dragons aren't pleased at all to have company. They start nodding their heads quickly, which is communication as well as threatening behaviour. As far as I understand it means "Get the f*** outta here!!!".
On Isabella we take a walk to the cute little town and find… sea lions. Lazy sea lions. Lying around everywhere. You almost step on them.
But don’t try to sit beside him, he will bark at you loudly. I mean, its obviously his bench… ;)
(sea lion leaving his sunny place on a boat)
As this is one of 2 places to get a wifi connection througout the whole Galapagos cruise, we all set off to find a bar.
It's not fast, but after 5 days without connection we are happy to be able to send at least some messages.
The sea lions and some birds keep us company.
Late in the afternoon we are picked up by our dinghy and enjoy the rest of the evening on board, having one of the famous dinners. With a nice glas of wine we start telling stories to each other and time passes quickly.
The boat sets off to our new destination in the meantime.
Again there is a rough night in front of us. The sea around Galapagos is not as quiet, as you might hope.
Even the catamaran is rolling heavily. As this is the second night like this, I try one of the pills, the crew is offering against sea sickness.
I am not sea sick, but I simply cannot sleep when my body is thrown from one side to the other...
Well, what should I say, the pill knocks me out half an hour later. I just remember a light shaking, like being rocked softly in a cradly.
Actually Markus gets a bit scared. According to him he was not sure if I was still breathing...
In the morning the ones that took the pill need several verrrry strong coffees. We cannot get awake until around 1pm and move like zombies.
Great stuff - only maybe tomorrow just take half a pill ;-))
